Linux Mint 18 Xfce edition released

The Linux Mint team has announced release of Linux Mint 18 Xfce edition, latest community edition of Linux Mint featuring Xfce desktop. Linux Mint project mainly focuses on Cinnamon and MATE editions. However, to reach more people it also provide Xfce edition targeting people who prefer lightweight desktop environment.

Linux Mint 18 is based on Ubuntu 16.04.x LTS series. So following the LTS(Long Term Support) policy of Ubuntu, it will also provide support till 2021. Linux Mint 18 Xfce edition comes with several updated packages and a lot of refinements to provide a better user experience.

Following are some notable highlights in Linux Mint 18 Xfce edition.
  • XApps - A collection of generic applications maintained by Linux Mint to provide a consistent and traditional user experience.
  • Improved update manager which comes with better user experience and performance.
  • Mint-Y - A brand new theme introduced by Linux Mint by release of Linux Mint 18. It is inspired by popular Arc theme and comes in dark and light varieties.
  • Several system level improvements
  • Improved artworks including nice set of wallpapers.
  • Better HiDPI support
  • All common applications has been migrated to GTK 3.x
  • Popular applications such as Steam, Spotify, Dropbox or even Minecraft were added to the Software Manager and are now easier to install.
